Information about Budapest Business School

The Budapest Business School, Hungary's market leading and largest university, educating about 16 000 students, was established as a result of the Hungarian higher education integration and on 1 January 2000 the three legal predecessors were merged:

      • Faculty of Commerce, Catering and Tourism (FCCT)

      • Faculty of International Management and Business (FIMB)

      • Faculty of Financy and Accountancy (FFA).

In 2011 our fourth College (now Faculty), the Zalaegerszeg College of Business Administration was established.

About FCCT:

The predecessor of the FCCT was the Academy of Commerce established in 1857. This was the first college of commerce in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Experts for commerce and banking were trained at this school. By restructuring education it became a Commercial School of Higher Education, and building upon traditions it was given a college status in 1969 by the name of College of Commerce and Catering. The institution finally adopted today's name implying independent tourism training in 1992.

About FIMB:

The history of the FIMB dates back to 1957. Highly qualified experts were trained here in commerce who speak foreign languages. In 1962 the School became an independent International Commercial School of Higher Education. In 1971 it was granted College status by the name of College of Foreign Trade. In 1992 two dual award programmes were launched in English and French in cooperation with two international partner institutions of higher Education.

About FFA:

The history of the FFA can be traced back to the Pest Academy of Commerce established in 1857, then to the Eastern Academy of Commerce. In a strict sense, the establishment of the College of Accountancy in 1953 can be regarded as the date of foundation. The institution took the name of College of Finance and Accountancy in the academic year of 1970-1971. Since then FFA has become the flagship college of higher education in finance and accountancy.

As you already know we are studying in the Tourism and Catering undergraduate degree at the Faculty of Commerce, Catering and Tourism. As for lessons, our core subjects are Economics, Introduction to Accounting, Introduction to Tourism, and Business Mathematics, just to mention a few. During our third semester we have to choose a specialization from the two opportunitites: either toursim and hotel management, or catering and hotel management. At the end of our studies we have to write a final thesis about a topic on our choice.

One interesting aspect od student life is that eating and drinking is allowed during classes. In contrast with high school rules, in our University there is no restriction concerning food consumption during classes. I think this is a great idea, because we can focus on the lecturer and the understanding of the subject instead of hunger. Furthermore, our classes are one and a half hours long, so there is no chance that somebody won't feel thirsty during them. We can bring some tee or coffee to  the classes so if we are getting tired, we have the chance to refresh ourselves. Finally, I think human needs cannot be restricted, and the satisfaction of these needs is crucial in order to be able to get out the most of ourselves.

Another unique aspect about the school is that attending to lectures is not compulsory. Is it a good or a bad thing? First of all, on the lectures the lecturer is giving thoughts and details about the subject that’s not in the textbooks. So on the one hand this should help you with your studies. But on the other hand, if you can manage with the textbook or other sources for the subject you don’t have to worry about being absent. A final thing about lectures is. In my opinion, a good lecturer can give an informative lecture not just read out a dry sketch of it; and make a less interesting subject more interesting. All in all, it’s up to you if would like some additional info about a subject or can manage without it just fine.

And why do we enjoy University life so much? Students who attend the Budapest Business School are lucky because of the entertaining facilities given by the university's community. There is no week without having the possibility to go for a party organized by the members of the University. Moreover, if the students' timetable is flexible and well done, it won't go at the learning's cost if the person can sleep and rest after a long and tiring night. Besides that, the parties are also appropriate places to get to know the foreign students as they aren't so shy there and everybody can show and improve their language level what is a really great opportunity. Finally, there isn't better place to strengthen the relationship among the freshmen.

Hi guys! We made an interview for you and a little video about the school. Hope you are going to enjoy :)
